Helping Businesses Grow is My Personal Life-Long Journey
My Mission: The mission I have set forth for my employees is that we will strive to create value for businesses by providing "Competitive Advantage" services. In turn, this will create opportunities for our employees and growth for all.
My journey has been a long winding road. Each turn opened new doors all leading me in one direction which is to work with passionate business owners and employees.
1991-1994 After graduating university, my first job was at Rogers Cantel, now Canada's largest cell phone carrier. Back then, I was one of the initial 50 employees and I eventually found my self working for Ted Rogers. Ted was a mentor, as well as being one of Canada's most successful businessmen. During my tenure I had the opportunity to work in every part of the organization. The most interesting parts to me was the marketing and engineering groups. It was here that I started to think about how to create business value. One of the concepts I developed was a cell phone messaging service whereby Cantel customers would be proactively notified of voicemails left for them. The service was called mobile messaging and was a pre-cursor to what is known today as Visual Voicemail.
1994-1997 For my second job, I was hired on as part of the initial management team at Fidelity Investments Canada. I held senior roles in Sales and Service and also was a member of the Global IT Systems Steering Committee. While I excelled here, I realized being part of a large corporate structure was not for me.
1998-2001 This period was a life changing time for me. I moved from Toronto to Los Angeles. I also changed careers and got into internet startups. I was part of successful incubator groups that launched PC Mall and MacMall. But it was here that I launched my first business. It was a joint venture with Muze Entertainment, a New York based company. Together we licensed video game data to over 100 online retailers taking a percentage of every game sold world-wide. I sold my shares out in 2003 to Rovi Entertainment which is was subsequently sold to Tivo.
2001-2017 After the 2000 internet stock crash, I decided to start my second company and I called it Office Beacon. I didn't know what I was going to sell or who I was going to sell to but I knew I wanted to help business owners. I also realized that globalization was upon us. I literally got onto a plane, went to India, rented an office and hired 5 people. When I got back to Los Angeles a week later, I started cold calling. I came to find out I was pretty good at it. Over the next 5 years, I grew the company substantially, all the while being the only sales person.
